STEREOTIP MASYARAKAT TERHADAP PEREMPUAN BERPENDIDIKAN TINGGI STUDI KASUS DI KOTA METRO

This study examines the stereotypes held by the community of Kota Metro toward women pursuing higher education, particularly at the master’s level. Although Kota Metro is known as an educational city, societal views remain divided between positive recognition of women’s educational advancement and persistent gender-biased assumptions. The purpose of this paper is to explore the socio-cultural, economic, and familial factors that shape these stereotypes and to understand how they influence women’s decisions regarding higher education. Using a qualitative approach, the study draws on interviews, literature review, and supporting research findings to analyze community perceptions. The results reveal that economic pressure, traditional gender roles, and concerns about women’s future marriage prospects contribute to negative stereotypes, while increasing awareness of gender equality and the role of educated mothers in family development support more positive views. Overall, the study highlights the need for broader social education and cultural transformation so that higher education for women is viewed as a social investment rather than a deviation from traditional expectations.
