Plagiarism Policy
Asian Journal Science and Engineering (AJSE) is committed to publishing only original work. Plagiarism in any form is unethical publishing behavior and is not accepted. All manuscripts submitted to AJSE are checked for similarity using Turnitin.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the use of another person's ideas, data, text, figures, or results without proper acknowledgment. It includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text, data, figures, or tables from other sources (published or unpublished) without citation;
- Paraphrasing another author's work without proper citation;
- Self-plagiarism: reusing substantial parts of the author's own previously published work without citation;
- Duplicate or redundant publication: submitting the same or substantially similar manuscript to more than one journal;
- Translation plagiarism: translating another work into English and presenting it as original.
2. Similarity Check Procedure
- Every manuscript is checked with Turnitin by the editorial office at the initial screening stage, before it is sent for peer review.
- The manuscript is checked again before publication, after the final revision.
- The similarity check excludes the reference list (bibliography), quotations that are properly cited, and small matches below 1%.
- The Turnitin similarity report may be shared with the corresponding author on request.
3. Similarity Threshold
| Overall similarity | Editorial action |
|---|---|
| ≤ 20% (and no single source above 5%) | The manuscript proceeds to the next stage of the editorial process. |
| 21% – 30% | The manuscript is returned to the author for revision to reduce similarity before peer review continues. |
| > 30% | The manuscript is rejected. |
The editors may still reject a manuscript with a similarity score below 20% if it contains copied passages, data, or figures without proper attribution.
4. Plagiarism Detected After Publication
If plagiarism is found after an article has been published, AJSE will investigate in line with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Depending on the severity, the journal may publish a correction, publish an expression of concern, or retract the article. The authors' institution may be informed, and the authors may be barred from submitting to AJSE for a period of time.
5. Responsibility of Authors
By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, is not under consideration by another journal, and that all sources used are properly cited. Authors are encouraged to check their manuscripts for similarity before submission.
