Abstract

This paper aims to know and study Muhammad Abduh's thoughts on educational reform through the implementation of learning methods. This research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive analysis approach, namely describing the background of thought, the core of thought and the influence of Muhammad Abduh's thought on the development of Islamic education thinking. The sources of data used in this study are the works of Muhammad Abduh and the works of Islamic thinkers who study and analyze the thought of Muhammad Abduh. Data analysis is carried out through data reduction, data presentation and conclusion or verification. The results of the analysis indicate that Muhammad Abduh is a popular Muslim figure known as a thinker in the field of Islamic education representing a modernist-rationalist group that is responsive to the development of science. Muhammad Abduh made reforms in Islamic education by integrating general science with religious science. Education for him is not only aimed at developing cognitive aspects (reason), but also needs to align with affective (mora) and psychomotor (skills) aspects. So that Muslims avoid cheese, backwardness in thinking and excessive taxation. Muhammad Abduh's thoughts on educational renewal through the implementation of learning methods in accordance with the needs of the industrial world and relevant to the development of science.
