Abstract

This article describes the Madrasah Principal’s Strategy in Improving the Quality of Educational Institutions at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Ternate City. In this study the researchers described the strategy of the head of MAN 1 Kota Ternate including improving academic and non-academic quality, curriculum development strategies and decision making, as well as madrasa heads in monitoring and evaluating. This study uses a type of qualitative research with a case study approach. The research location is at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Ternate City. Collecting data using observation, interviews and documentation. The data sources consisted of the head of the madrasah, the deputy head of the madrasa (wakamad) in the field of curriculum, the wakamad of student and teacher affairs and documents. Data analysis techniques used by researchers using theoretical analysis by Miles and Huberman, to test the validity of the data using source, data and time triangulation. The results of this research are 1) madrasa heads in developing academic quality by implementing madrasah-based quality education management. 2) Implementation of curriculum development that still refers to the first four indicators: legal indicators, philosophical indicators, psychological indicators, and sociological indicators. Decision making using participatory and democratic. 3) the madrasa head quality controller prepares monitoring documents, monitors directly to class, the madrasa head also has direct contact with the activities of the teachers in class. The madrasah head in the evaluation and follow-up was very systematic because the madrasah head did not immediately report and give sanctions but carried out coaching and meetings together, after which individual calls were made to the teachers with guidance and providing periodic reports.
