Abstract

This study aims to study the English learning strategies used by native Papuan students in Senior High level Jayapura.This research method is descriptive qualitative. The population in this study were native Papuan students and English subject teachers. Triangulation data collection techniques, namely interviews, observation and documentation. The data collection in this study used the direct observation method which was entered into the research notes and used interview guidelines. The data analysis technique used in this study is a suspended analysis technique in which the researcher looks at, transcribes and classifies code transfers found in communication which are then adjusted according to type.The results of this study indicate that learning strategies used by native Papuan students when learning English are metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies, and social-affective strategies.
